The Admiralty and Maritime Law Committee of the American Bar Association Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section is offering a writing competition, open to all law students.  By writing an essay on Recent Developments in Admiralty and Maritime Law, students are eligible to win $500, plus up to $500 reimbursement towards attendance at the ABA Annual Meeting in San Francisco.

Fifth Annual “Endangered Environmental Laws” Student Writing Competition (2009-10)

The National Association of Environmental Law Societies

Topic: Any topic addressing recent developments or trends in U.S. environmental law that have a significant constitutional or “federalism” component.

Eligibility: Students currently enrolled in law school (in the U.S. or abroad) are eligible, including students who will graduate in the spring or summer of 2010. Any relevant article, case comment, note, or essay may be submitted, including writing submitted for academic credit. Jointly authored pieces are eligible only if all authors are students and consent to submit. Previously published pieces, or pieces that are already slated for publication, are ineligible.

Award: $2000 cash prize and an offer of publication in the Environmental Law Reporter.
Deadline: Entries must be received no later than 5:00 PM ET on April 12, 2010.

Elliot A. Spoon Business Law Writing Competition

The Journal of Business & Securities Law is now accepting submissions for the Elliot A. Spoon Business Law Writing Competition. Submit a journal style article on any current topic concerning business or securities law.

The Elliot A. Spoon Business Law Writing Competition is designed to encourage business law scholarship by upper-level law students nationwide.

The selected winner will receive a check in the amount of $500 by mail, contingent on receipt of a signed publication contract. The winner will be notified by April 7, 2010 via email. 

Submission Procedure:

The competition is open to any law student of an ABA accredited law school. Submit (1.) an electronic copy of the article in Word or Rich Text format, (2.) a brief abstract or cover letter about your article, and (3.) your curriculum vitae with complete contact information.
